Long-distance move from North Salt Lake, UT to San Antonio, TX

Worst company ever

Horrible experience, lost a picture that cost me over 1000 dollars, after being ignored by them, they are kind enough to send a settlement for 9.00 to replace it. They refused to follow through on the contract and put my furniture back together. I had to hire someone to fix what they destroyed. It took 2 months to get my stuff returned, wherever they held my boxes was so muggy that my boxes could not hold their shape anymore, lost alot of kitchen glass when they brought in my stuff. Made me sign a paper saying I got all my stuff BEFORE they would even open the truck. I had to sign a lie before they would provide my stuff. They were sketchy in looks with hoodies covering part of their face, and for a senior citizen, very scary experience. They have lost their license and seriously... go elsewhere.

Long-distance move from Princeton, WV to Jackson, TN

Scam!

SCAM! Bait and switch scam operation! I hired Mega Van Lines to move me from WV to TN and the move was planned for 6/11 with an arrival of 6/13-6/14. Mega Van Lines gave me a binding estimate of ~$3,600. Under the terms and conditions of the contract, the total cost of my move would not exceed this final binding price. They outsourced my move to PackRite, which I did not find out until the day of my move. The guys arrived 4.5 hours late on 6/11 in a white truck with graffiti on it. They loaded our items and instantly the price doubled! They said the company underestimated the cubic feet of our items, which was an absolute LIE. I had to move immediately so I was left without any alternative at the time. I stressed the importance of my items arriving on 6/13 because I would be starting my new job. The men assured me a delivery date of 6/13 and even wrote "Delivery guaranteed" with the date on my contract. I wrote the company a personal check for $2,000 which they accepted. The driver immediately took a photo of it and sent it to the manager of PackRite named Jen.

The following day, I text the manager of PackRite, Jen, who responded by saying my delivery was now on 6/15-6/16. I called her and she constantly spoke over me during my attempt to discuss the change in dates. I informed her about the delivery guarantee written on my contract and she asked me to send it to her. I sent her a photo of the receipt and she called me back SCREAMING at me and accused me of writing what her driver had in fact written. She followed by saying, "Your SHIT is going into storage and you're never going to see it again" and hung up. I attempted to call back numerous times, but she denied my calls. Eventually I got through to another person and upon attempting to discuss the delivery he said, "F**K YOU. You'll get your shit when your check clears" and hung up. I then called Mega Van Lines and spoke with Eddie, who said he would call to find out what was going on and he promised to call me back, but never did.

For the next 2 days, I called Mega Van Lines and spoke with Eddie on multiple occasions and each time he promised to "get to the bottom of it", but never once returned a phone call. I called and spoke with PackRite who informed me that my items would be delivered by different people and had to be loaded on to another truck first. They provided me with the phone number for my driver named "Pepe", but when I called, he had no idea about my delivery and said he would call me back, but never did. I was given a total of 3 different driver's phone numbers with the same exact result of no information regarding my move. Multiple additional attempts to get answers about my delivery date, location of my items, and driver information was met with no response from Mega Van Lines, Jen, or PackRite.

On 6/15, I called and was informed my delivery would now arrive 6/17-6/18. At this point, I had my attorney reach out to Jen from PackRite and Eddie from MVL. It was requested that Jen be removed as the contact for the remainder of my move and also that my attorney receive daily updates from Eddie regarding the status of my delivery. Neither PackRite nor Mega Van Lines complied with these agreed upon requests. Finally, on 6/19, I received a phone call from Pepe that my items would arrive by 6 pm. They arrived at 9:41 pm, which was almost 4 hours late and told me my money orders were no good and that my original check was not cashed and I needed to pay them that balance in CASH before they would unload the truck. I called the police at this point and they did their best to resolve this hostage situation of my items. I ended up having to go to an ATM to get cash out to finish paying these jokers and they finally agreed to accept my money orders as long as I also gave them the "customer receipt" portion as well, which is illegal. They finished unloading our stuff around 2 AM and did not assemble anything like it states they would do in the contract. Our furniture was damaged and many of our boxes smashed. This company needs to be put out of business!

Long-distance move from Orwigsburg, PA to Atlanta, GA

Do Not Hire Packrite or Alliance Moving And Storage!

My husband and I hired a moving broker (Alliance Moving and Storage), who in turn, hired PackRite Movers to handle our long-distance move. We were quoted a price based on the cubic footage of our items (~1200 cu. ft.) and were told to expect a minor increase based on our actual items. We were also instructed to deposit 1/3 of the total cost before services are rendered, which amounted to $1229.80. On moving day, PackRite Movers arrived with a 26-foot moving truck, which we later learned can only have a maximum capacity of 1700 cubic feet (per the Penske website). The Forman counted our items and estimated 1400 cubic feet before loading. This seemed reasonable, so we allowed him to proceed. When he was finished loading, he told us that it was 1800 cubic feet (despite the moving truck being 2/3 full), and he charged us additional packing materials, which were supposed to be free of charge (with some exception noted in Alliance Moving and Storage's contract). The Forman on delivery even admitted that there was an additional 300 cubic feet of another person's belongings in the truck, but he would not allow me to take photographs. My husband didn't know any better (I was not present at the time), and since we were at risk of losing our large deposit, and we absolutely had to move that weekend, we had no choice but to sign the contract. We were assured that we could submit a claim to their customer service department to rectify the issue. On delivery, we paid the additional $1932 in cash as we were directed, and I submitted a detailed claim by PDF and by mail to PackRite Mover's customer service department. I provided photographs of the moving van, its licence plate, and our items to ensure proof that we were overcharged. I also provided a full copy of the contract. PackRite Movers has dismissed my claim on the grounds that I signed the contract on moving day. I feel this is an unacceptable response.

Not mentioned in my claim were the three pieces of broken particle board furniture, which have survived four full moves when I pack them myself. They are not part of my claim because PackRite Movers forces you to sign a contract that waives them of any responsibility if these items are broken.

Even if I do not receive a refund, it is my hope that this business is made to stop taking advantage of customers. I did not hire this company, and I would never hire this company based on customer reviews. (The Better Business Bureau even gives them an F-rating.) I was forced to use them because of the moving broker, Alliance Moving and Storage. It is my hope that Alliance Moving and Storage is made aware of these actions and that they think twice before hiring PackRite Movers again.

To anyone considering a moving broker: Don't hire one. They do not communicate effectively with the movers (we had numerous issues not mentioned here), and they put all responsibility on the movers. I work with contractors and subcontractors daily, and this type of service is unheard of. The contractor always takes responsibility for the subcontractor's actions, because they are the ones that hired them. Alliance Moving and Storage selected the cheapest mover, despite them having an F-rating and 1-star customer reviews everywhere.

I repeat, DO NOT HIRE PACKRITE MOVERS OR ALLIANCE MOVING AND STORAGE. You will be scammed. Despite making a complaint to the BBB, I will likely not get any money back.

Long-distance move from Revere, MA to Clearwater, FL

This company is deceptive and terrible

This company uses deceptive practices with move brokers who under quote to get jobs with consumers who would not choose to do business with them.

For me, they were subcontracted with Independence van lines who had decent reviews for local moves but many experiences with similar moves to mine had terrible reviews. I also filed a complaint with regarding this experience. (BBB Complaint Case# 90590225)

I scheduled a move from Massachusetts to Florida the movers were expected to arrive on Monday, they called me on a Sunday morning saying they were an hour away from pick up.

The movers required me to sign their paper work once they arrived. Unbeknownst to me this was the bill of lading they would use to screw me over despite reassuring me there was no issue & it's standard process they would not start the move until it was signed. I called the move broker company but they didn't respond.

The movers told me they would give me the price after they put the stuff in my truck. The driver advised the move would take 1 week. Again called the broker and they didn't reply.

One of the movers asked me my nationality & began laughing & talking to the other mover in their language.

I was told the movers would have boxes for my TVs & instead they wrapped my TV in a blanket and taped cardboard around it.

When they finished packing their truck is where the $1800 quote went to $5300, which they would not adjust even after I removed several items from the truck.

Since the bill of lading was signed in their paperwork they tacked on several charges I did not agree to & left me with the carbon copy with no other options. The driver said the manager would call me to adjust the price. They did not. I called them & independence van lines multiple times & they did not respond.

Yesterday independence van lines called me saying the movers would arrive Friday or Saturday November 27th or 28th. This evening I received a call from the Packrite Movers manager who cursed at me & refused to take a credit card paper & demanded cash or a money order & that my stuff was arriving tomorrow morning the 25th with less then 24 hour notice.

He threatened to charge me extra fees & keep my stuff with less then 24 hours to come up with thousands of dollars because they had my signature. They refused to take credit card payment despite the driver saying it's not an issue when they picked up my items. When I asked for the managers name he hung up on me.

I would like to see them investigated, I believe they may not hire legal workers & their tactics of threatening customers should be illegal.

This appears to be their standard practice there are many other people that have the exact experience with them on Google reviews & other review sites. They scam customers who do no want to do business with them by getting contracted via moving brokers.

Long-distance move from Oakmont, PA to Temecula, CA

Do not use this company I wish I had read the reviews first.

This is a scam do not use this company. My boxes were all smashed and a lot of broken items. You have to pay first before they open up the door of truck now I know why. I am getting ahold of Better Business Bureau to repot them. I have a box of someone else pictures that I’m sure is important to the owner that was on the truck I would think it would be easy to find the person they belong to but company won’t get back with you. They charge you more when they show up and the Brokerage company that hires them Sunshine company is working with them to scam you. I tried to call them when they showed up to move me to ask why they are charging me more money they just hung up on me then would not answer phone when I tried calling them back. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY you will regret it!!!

Long-distance move from Freedom, PA to Scottsdale, AZ

Worst company ever. Complete scam

If I could give negative stars I would. This company is completely fraudulent. I was moving from PA to AZ and used a broker, Independence van lines to help secure movers. They contracted with Packrite Movers.

Packrite was supposed to pick up my items from a storage unit in PA on 11/13/20. They showed up hours late when it was pitch dark. I was in flight to AZ to secure my new house so my sister was on site in PA to meet them. They had her so busy completing forms that she could not fully watch what they were doing. Then once everything was on the truck, they said it was way over the original binding estimate by 1395 ft. which equated to $7500 additional money. They held my items hostage so she paid half to get them on their way as she didn't know what else to do.

They said they would drive that same truck to AZ and would be there by 11/18/20. Not only did they not show but you cannot reach anyone at Packrite. You get a machine everytime and they NEVER call back. For weeks. I was completely stressed as nobody would tell me where my items were and if they would ever be delivered.

I got my first call from a different driver on 12/2/20 saying he would be there around 1pm on 12/3 and they only accept cash or money order. So I bought Moneygram money orders. On 12/3, they show up hours late, once again, in the dark. Then they tell me Moneygram money orders would not be accepted. They want Postal money orders. They said I could wire money using Zelle directly to Charl Faltas -- not even a company name. SUPER SKETCHY!!!. They again held my items hostage until I could get Postal money orders. They charged me an additional 650 in overnight fees..

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. THIS COMPANY IS A COMPLETE SCAM. RUN AWAY. I have filed complaints with BBB & FMCSA

Long-distance move from Cincinnati, OH to Kirkland, WA

Lost and broken items

I filled out a claim back in 8/2020 with this company, and they never responded or took responsibility for the gas drill they lost from Cincinnati, Ohio to Seattle-Kirkland- never reached out to help with the items they broke and lost, and when calling them, they make you wait for ever on the phone, if you lucky to have someone answers, they do not give you any results. Stay away from this company.

Long-distance move from San Jose, CA to Aurora, CO

Stay Far away from them

I would do a zero but it won't let me. This company is unprofessional, rude and thieves. I moved from San Jose, CA to Aurora, CO, my dad passed 12 days after I got here. I needed to go home but they kept promising me my things would be here, first week of January. then the next week. My stuff didn't come until 2/1 they claimed snow was the issue. However, the guys who delivered told me my stuff was in a storage for a week 8 minutes from my house!!!! My stuff came, broken and missing. My 2 sons and I had to go to the storage unit ourselves the next day to pick up some more of our stuff. Took me almost 2 months to find out what all was missing, deal with my grief and start working. I had to put off starting my job until I could get my things, since I had no idea what day they were coming. I had been filling up a 5 gallon water jug with coins since my son was 2 and it is missing, my new TV mount for my 65 in tv is gone, my dresser mirror was broken, among all the other things that were broken. I plan to complain to the BBB and the company I hired, I did not hire these guys, I hired Independence Moving and had no idea this company would show up. The owner was texting me the day I finally got my things and he was threatening and cussing at me, calling me names so I had to block him. The guys who delivered our things felt so bad for what happened to us they lied to the owner and told him we were blocking them in, our cars were in the back so that never happened but they did not want to leave with our stuff. But because I had a money order and cash and not a POSTAL money order the owner flipped out. apparently he doesn't understand a money order is just like CASH!!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER...STAY FAR AWAY

Local move within Arizona

Pack Rite Movers , Patterson New Jersey.

We hired Empire to move us across the country. Since they are brokers and don't actually do the move ( they hire and send movers to you) they sent "Pack Rite Movers" from NJ to do our move. Empire doesn't tell you they are brokers and it doesn't state on their website that they are brokers . Apparently it's in the small writing on the contract.. so beware of this. When you talk to them, they give you the impression that they will be moving you..but they aren't actual movers. First the movers they sent us tried to double the cost of the quote that Empire gave us stating that Empire underestimated the square footage of our house therefore, they have to double the price (and by double I mean add an additional $10K to the already $13K we were paying). They told us this after they had already packed up our stuff and had the truck locked and headed out. They said we could not get our stuff unless we paid them the additional money in cash.

After researching Pack Rite Movers we discovered they have an "F" rating with the BBB. Empire said we would get our stuff in 8-10 days. We got our stuff almost 3 weeks later. They gave us 5 dates of delivery and didn't show up to any of them. My husband took time off work each time in anticipation of them arriving and they failed to show up to 5 different delivery dates that they gave us. Empire will say that delivery is not guaranteed. I get that, but 5 times we were told they would show up and didn't. Finally they showed up. Upon unpacking we discovered that almost every piece of furniture was damaged. They literally threw stuff in boxes without wrapping anything. They threw my fine china (wedding present) into a box with my coffee maker and most of my china was broken. Things that were very sentimental to us (wedding gifts, gifts from my grandmother) were all destroyed. They charged us for "packing material" yet barely used packing material. They took our towels and sheets and used them as "packing material" so I'm not really sure what we paid $1400 for packing material for.

We have moved 7 times and I have never had so many things destroyed or dealt with such unprofessionalism in all these moves. I was literally in tears because I lost so many valuable and precious things to me in this move. Empire response was that it was out of their hands, even though they sent this company to us. If we were given the opportunity to research who they were sending (if Empire was upfront with us about it and actually informed us that they were brokers and not actual movers), we would not have allowed Pack Rite to touch our stuff based on the reviews and their "F" rating with the BBB. I would not recommend Empire and definitely not Pack Rite Movers..It was one of the worst experience I have ever had with a company. Even though they weren't present for anything and did not have first hand knowledge of anything, they said we added stuff to the move , therefore justifying the increase in price. This was a lie, as we actually had less stuff after selling 2 dressers and throwing away a bunch of stuff that we decided not to take with us. Empire blamed us at every turn and wouldn't accept responsibility for anything that went wrong. We lost $10K worth of stuff that was broken/damaged/stolen.
After speaking with the owner of Pack Rite we were told they would '"Take care " of our broken/stolen stuff. They offered us $700 to cover the cost of $10K worth of damage!! We feel taken advantage of and heartbroken that we can't replace what we lost!! Beware of their "insurance" its a joke! This was by far the worst experience ever with a moving company!!
